CSFC Fire Expo Set for October 4

Centre Square Fire Company is holding its free, family-friendly Fire Expo on Friday, October 4. The event will run from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Wentz Run Park, 960 Wentz Road, Blue Bell. In the event of inclement weather, it will be held on October 5.

“Our volunteers look forward to putting on the Fire Expo every year,” said firefighter Matt Kozeniewski. “It’s so important to educate the public about fire prevention and what their local fire department does.”

During the event, the community can meet Centre Square’s firefighters and watch fire prevention demonstrations, including vehicle and water rescues. Kids can try hands-on activities, including extinguishing a fire, using the “Jaws of Life” and spraying hoses. The community can also see the PennStar landing and more than 30 apparatus, plus enjoy refreshments and a chance to win fun prizes.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you.” At the CSFC Fire Expo, families can learn about the importance of having smoke alarms in their homes, how often they should be tested and where they should be installed. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by 54 percent, making smoke alarms the first line of defense against a fire.

“When smoke alarms sound, the community can count on Centre Square’s volunteers to respond and keep them safe,” said Kozeniewski. “Our team is always seeking more firefighters, who are looking to make a difference and help us respond to calls.”

Centre Square Fire Company is seeking firefighters, fire police, junior firefighters and administrative members. No prior experience is required to join. The community can learn about volunteer opportunities at the Fire Expo or on their recruitment website www.CentreSquareFire.org.

In addition to the Fire Expo, Centre Square Fire Company is hosting a comedy night on November 2. For tickets or more info, email comedy@csfc33.com.
