Volunteer Spotlight: Laurie Iacobellis

Laurie Iacobellis was extremely excited to have the opportunity to volunteer with Centre Square Fire Company. An administrative volunteer since March 2023, her accounting background has been very helpful. Laurie assists with accounting-related functions within Centre Square Fire Company. She has a “behind-the-scenes” role in the office, but also helps with fundraising and events such as Trivia Night.

“I think a lot of people aren’t aware of the many facets of infrastructure within a fire company where assistance and support are greatly needed everywhere,” said Laurie.  “There are many opportunities to give back to the community, not just firefighting and that has been the most gratifying part to me.”

Laurie has an accounting degree and comes to the fire company with a deep background in the health insurance industry. She is currently overseeing operations for an EMS revenue cycle management company.

“The administrative role at Centre Square is right in my skill set. I’ve been doing it all my life,” she said. “This involvement has enabled me to continue learning about so much more within a different area I have never been exposed to. Not everyone is equipped to be a firefighter, which I have great respect for. This admin role is one way I can contribute.”

Laurie admires the way the firefighters collaborate with each other.

“They are willing to help wherever needed and have fun along the way. They are a family,” she said.

Despite typically working 10-12 hours a day, Laurie is always at Centre Square on Monday nights for weekly training.

“Centre Square is so flexible, it makes it easy to volunteer and balance with work,” said Laurie. “I hope to get more entrenched in the fire company and be able to do more for them.”
