Volunteer spotlight: Noah Johnson

Noah Johnson is a newer addition to Centre Square Fire Company’s team and is in the junior firefighting program for teens ages 16 and 17. He joined over the summer because he always thought volunteering would be cool and was looking for a way to give back to the community.

“I think volunteering is a great opportunity for high school students not only because it’ll look good to colleges, but it’s also a unique experience that not many people our age get to have, and I think it’s very valuable,” says Noah.

In addition to learning how to use the tools and equipment, Noah is learning more intangible skills like how to be a contributing member of a team and help others. One of Noah’s favorite experiences so far was working the booth at Centre Square’s Fire Expo in October and interacting with families.

“I always used to go to the fire expo when I was a kid and it was such a cool and unique experience being able to be on the other side of it,” said Noah.

He is looking forward to taking the Firefighter I course to become a certified firefighter. For anyone who wants to be active in their community and give back, Noah recommends joining Centre Square Fire Company.

“The best thing about volunteering is the sense of community and the relationships you get to build with the other firefighters, and also getting the chance to really help people,” said Noah.
